Newfoundland's Southern Avalon is very rich in culture, history and traditions. Being one of the earliest areas settled on the island, it is steeped in stories shared through music, art, crafts, food and most importantly the welcoming spirit of the people.

We hope you take in as much as your time allows and don't hesitate to say hello and ask questions of the locals. Everyone is a storyteller here and we love to overshare :-).

Ongoing

Mistaken Point - Portugal Cove South

Open mid-May to mid-Oct

ECHO - Trepassey

Amelia Earhart spent 12 days in Trepassey before crossing the Atlantic, making her the first woman to cross the Atlantic by air. ECHO has been set up to promote the Southern Avalon with initiatives and events that showcase our historical assets. Watch this space for event updates.

Whale Watching - St. Vincent's

mid-June to early-August

Humpback whales dance (or swim) to their own tune which makes it very hard to follow their patterns. Thankfully the good folks of St. Vincents have started a Facebook Page that alerts visitors when whales are spotted

Hiking - Avalon Wilderness

Coastlines, Barrens, etc.

The East Coast Trail has not reaches as far as the Avalon's southern tip yet, but that doesn't mean there is no hiking. In fact there is incredible hiking opportunities on un-groomed and non-crowded landscape. We can suggest short, medium and long hiking opportunities per your request.
